An enjoyable midweek break

The Inn on the Lake is a modern hotel in a beautiful rural setting.

Though close to the M2/A2, its public rooms and the bedrooms ("superior") overlooking the lake are free of traffic noise, comfortable and well equipped. The hotel's best assets are its staff - the receptionists could not have been more helpful, and the restaurant staff were well rained and attentive. Downsides: - it took a long time to replace a reading lamp bulb (12 hours!) and the trouser press didn't work. Also the billing system is rather seventies - most hotels these days only require a room number and a signed bill for bar and restaurant purchases, checking the occupant electronically. At the Inn, producing a large pink identity card as well is rigidly required.

Inn on the Lake Hotel

This hotel was sadly run down and in some places dirty except for the room itself.

Smokers were allowed to smoke right outside the entrance to the hotel (inn) and therefore the smell of smoke was apparent everywhere in the lobby area drifting to the restaurant area. Someone was already in the room we were given a key to so this was embarrassing to say the least as I went into the room. For this oversight, that meant about 20 minutes wasted in getting another room allocated. The room offered had a large metal bunk bed in it which was horrible. This was because it was a family room not the room I booked. I thought having a view over the lake would be nice, but that was spoilt too by people being able to look over the fence and into the windows so you had no privacy. There was a wedding at the hotel (inn) which is probably why I had to accept the horrible replacement room, The swearing, smoking and children running around and nearly going outside onto the A2 was just too much. The breakfast was acceptable. There was not much to smile about on this visit, but the staff were lovely and the evening meal that we paid extra for was extremely nice. I will of course not be going back to the Inn on the Lake.
