Euro Hostel Glasgow
Stayed in a dorm.
Was ok, but very basic.
bring earplugs, water and a manual fan and you just might sleep in the summer!
Stifling on the eighth floor so the window was open for air: sadly the necessary air was accompanied over the wee hours by the sounds of late-night trains, road vehicles, tired & emotional folk, territorial gulls and, once again, trains for the early birds.
A handy location for Central Station but you'll need earplugs if you hope to sleep at all during hot weather. You'll have to make your own bed (not ideal when you are tired, foot-sore and have to reach the top bunk without disturbing the others in the room). I thought I'd sleep like a log after a long, long day on my feet and a very early start that day but sleep did not come. Too hot, too noisy, too uncomfortable. The lavatory and shower in the room have no extractor fans, incidentally. Wierdly, I met with confusion when I arrived early to drop off my bag. The website clearly states "Our facilities include: Secure luggage storage before check-in or after check-out (£1 per bag, per day)"; when I sought to take this up, I was told there was storage for 50p or for £1.50 but not for £1. I said I'd seen it on the website and was treated with disbelief, frankly. I paid £1.50 to have my bag put in an open room behind the desk. The website still states: "Secure luggage storage before check-in or after check-out (£1 per bag, per day)" so I'm not sure why it came as news to Euro Hostel Glasgow's receptionist or why she quoted me 2 different options. Any ladies visiting the toilet in the Mint & Lime bar are advised to watch out for the set of steps as they leave - I nearly twisted my ankle on them at the start of the day and can only suggest to Euro Hostel Glasgow that the edge of each step be marked much more clearly.
Finally, when I paid the balance for my night's stay and asked for a receipt, because I'd paid cash, I was told I would get a receipt when I checked out next day. I'm baffled by this.
