Handy location for journey north, but wouldn't stay here again

Friendly but lack lustre welcome, staff busy preparing for evening function.

Room was clean, had dinner in the bar as dining room was in use for a private function. Service for dinner was slow. Food was ok. Breakfast menu said fresh seasonal fruit was available, but only apples, oranges and bananas in evidence, despite the date ( July).

I found a stray carpet tack when it stuck in my bare foot. Handed the offending item in at reception when we left. Overall, disappointed with stay.
