The building of the Hotel Charles Prague is the original Gothic residential house, built in the middle of the 13th century when defensive ditch and rampart were replaced by Gothic buildings and streets. Remains of previous rampart are still preserved in the basement. The house was burned down during Hussite wars and later renewed in 1503.
An expensive renovation of this building was made during the Renaissance in the second half of the 16th century. The third floor was built in Baroque style in 1686. The lion’s masks on the facade of third floor of the Charles Hotel Prague facing toward street Mostecka are patrons of the building. An early Baroque portal with transform light is visible from Josefska Street.
The Charles Hotel Prague was established in 1890. The staircase leading from the basement all the way to the attic was built in 1865.
The last renovation of the Charles Hotel Prague was made in 2008.
