Newly refurbished rooms were nice and a comfortable bed, the rest was a bit disappointing...
I'll start with the good bits - I arrived late Sunday night, and the reception staff were both friendly and helpful.
The room was clean, the newly designed bathrooms were well done, and the bed was comfortable with the option of hard/soft pillows.
I booked a room with breakfast for both days - when I arrived for breakfast and gave the waitress my room number I was told fairly bluntly I do not have breakfast included with my room. A small point to make, but I was made to feel as if I was trying to get away with a freebie - perhaps this is a common problem at Holiday Inn. Guilty until proven innocent ahead of my first coffee. Breakfast was in the end absolutely fine, and after a few minutes it was officially confirmed that the meal was actually included. The scrambled egg section remained empty for the duration, so I ordered some poached eggs - they were gladly cooked perfectly. At lunchtime I had a little time before a meeting, so I ordered room service, a 'Holiday Inn salad' - sizzling/spicy chicken strips, on a bed of salad with fresh mango and sour cream. I really hate sending food back - I am British after all, but for £12 plus £4.50 delivery to the room, my salad was pretty lacklustre. Luke warm, over cooked breaded chicken strips on a dry, basic undressed salad with no mango. I rang up and asked to send it back, but when nobody came to collect it I just left it outside the room. I asked at reception, and the lady said the staff were probably on lunch. When I came back in the evening my room hadn't been cleaned during the day, not a huge problem, but its a pretty basic thing to expect when paying for a hotel room. All in all, my stay was just okay - just a few simple things they got wrong. Internet is a paid for 24 hour voucher by the way, unless you sign up to a loyalty scheme, which I really didn't want to bother with. I would suggest to Holiday Inn (as a company) that it is now 2016. I stay in a lot of hotels around the world with my job, and internet is very nearly always a simple free service, and I'm always surprised when not - for international travellers to have the ability to ring home for free goes a long way.

Poor choice on my part
Room had no heating, until I complained as was told that I should have been told of the problem on check-in...and provided with a heater.
In the restaurant a simple sirloin steak was about a quarter fat and gristle...so I negotiated a 25% discount off the bill..but that shouldn't have been necessary..and even the Harvester across the road was looking more appealing!
