Great hotel for location & amenities but staff need training

The hotel is located right in the middle of Canterbury so you can't go wrong as a base for a short break in the town for access to everywhere on foot.

Parking v v limited so expect to park elsewhere & pay quite a bit for it.

The room was v pleasant and a huge bed, so all good there.

The sad bit of this review is that the behaviour of some of the staff let the experience down. A few incidences of indifference left us with a feeling that some staff had forgotten, or not been trained, that however lovely the hotel amenities are, if the customer is left feeling either slighted, frustrated or not cared for then they won't come back or tell their friends it's a good place to go.

Examples: staff walking away on an errand as you approach the front desk to check out, without acknowledging your presence. Bar staff who don't smile when they serve you or when they tell you they've sold out of a product, shrug indifferently. It's hard to put your finger on it, but overall, adding the few things together, was a feeling that the staff were more focussed on completing the task they were doing and missed the point of why they doing it.

Canterbury Stay

ideally positioned to explore the city.

Clean, comfortable and well decorated. Friendly staff on reception and in the restaurant but the staff in the latter should listen to what customers say. For breakfast I asked for English Breakfast without beans and with a fried egg. I got beans and no egg. We asked for decaf tea and got decaf coffee !.

We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening because the the Chef was trying to be "too clever" with his choices. I like something different but this went too far. (just my opinion) Our lunch however was excellent.
