Does what it says on the tin
Like a design timewarp from the 80s, and seemingly furnished by a blind person from a DFS sale.
Nonetheless, our cottage in the old stables was very sweet and comfortable. If booking for self-catering bring all your own kitchen equipment as there are only the bare minimum of absolute basics. The staff are beyond charming and helpful and were the cherry on the icing of our stay. Do be warned that the cottages are too far to walk for the infirm from the main house with the main restaurant etc. (we drove).
Have stayed at this hotel a number of times and had some great times, sadly this was not one.
The grounds are beautiful the spa is a joy however, our room (A classic double £205 not the standard) was above the kitchen and was very noisy from around 9 in the evening till 1 in the morning then again around 4 for the breakfast call.
Dinner was superb, just very late, we had a order taken at 8.15 in the bar but our main course did not arrive till 10.10, as I said when it did arrive it was very good but I get the feeling that the restaurant was over stretched and with a price tab of £250 for the two of us (Locatelli's prices, Michelin star) was disappointing, in fairness the staff acknowledged when picked up on this, our wait with complimentary glass of port. The next question is would I stay here again...the answer is not sure would I recommend it. again with some reservations.
