Not the experience we had hoped for, or the previous reviews had suggested.

The room was large and clean but the bed was the most uncomfortable it has ever been my misifortune to try to sleep on.

I realise I am not standard but there must be others out there who would sympathise. I have arthritic hips and firm beds cause me no end of pain. I had to buy a thick double duvet and some pillows. The duvet got folded in three to help soften the experience, and the pillow made up for the two very thin pillows on the bed. Breakfast was very poor on 3 of the 5 mornings. The first 3 mornings the sausages were not cooked enough but the eggs were over cooked. Morning three I abandoned the sausages all together and asked for a soft scrambled egg, I got soft poached eggs but at least the yolk was runny, however the bacon was over cooked to the extent it was hard. The final 2 morning the owner was there and he cooked the breakfast and it was superb. Most of the staff were foreign and, unlike the owner, disinclined to chat, so not overly welcoming.

We wanted somewhere to stay overnight to break up our trip to Cornwall.

I booked this place based on value for money as we wouldn't be there for long however this place exceeded our expectations. A lovely old pub with wooden fires that served great food and a really friendly welcome. The rooms were in a courtyard at the back and were huge with good facilities. I would definitely recommend this place.
