12 Carlton Terrace, equidistant to the Playhouse and Omni Centre as well as The Balmoral Hotel, Waverley train station and only minutes from the American Consulate, was designed by William Playfair in the 1820s and boasts an impressive entrance hall, a grand drawing room and a very quiet, yet spacious double bedroom with a king-size double bed overlooking leafy gardens. Number 12 Carlton Terrace was once occupied in 1833 by Lord Greenock who distinguished himself at Waterloo and was appointed Commander of the forces in Scotland and Govenor of Edinburgh Castle in 1837.
