About the hotel
Built in 1866, the 'Duke' has all the character and charm of a traditional country inn, built in Derbyshire limestone with slate roofs, roaring log fires and extensive gardens, our pub is well worth a visit. Our inn has been redecorated, relatively recently, in a country style that provides a warm and comfortable atmosphere for both drinkers and diners alike. The menu is simple and traditional with a big focus on traditional pub favourites and our 28-day-aged Derbyshire beef that gives us a wide selection of steaks and grills.
The extensive floral gardens offer comfortable seating areas as well as a fully enclosed heated patio area overlooking 'Riber Castle and the Derwent Valley'.

Unhelpful staff, four poster room we booked now not available and no food after 8pm! ! It's a pub!!
Was disappointed as booked a four poster, special occasion so had treated ourselves only to be told on arrival it wasn't available anymore.
They had of course changed the price but no other apology just facts given. We had booked a pub with food so we could eat and relax when got there due to travelling straight from a days work. We arrived at 8pm waited to be looked after, granted it was a busy pub and bar staff were the ones checking us in. I asked about what time they served food until, I could see people eating, to be told sorry kitchen shut at 8pm no food available. Staff not very help when we asked where could we get food and just said didn't really know at this time of night around here. We did however discover a wetherspoons pub a short drive away that served food until 11pm which they must of known was there!. Not what we had in mind for our romantic evening but good as we were starving!!!
they made us feel very welcome the room was excellent would stay again
