Red squirrel watch
Absolutely ideal place to spend a couple of nights, especially if you want to see red squirrels and bird watch.
We were greeted by Betty and were made to feel like old friends. In fact everyone at the centre made us welcome. We were four adults mainly in the Cairngorms to spot the wildlife and this was the perfect base. The log cabin had one bedroom with very comfortable twin beds and a lounge area with small sofa bed and reclining armchair. We opted for borrowing a Z bed and used the recliner as a bed. The cabin is basically equipped and it would have been better if we had eaten in the onsite restaurant, which we recommend. (As we had food with us from our previous rental we opted to eat in and managed with the equipment provided.) The couple of heaters in the cabin kept us nice and warm in the evening and we spent a couple of cosy nights chatting about our experiences during the day.
Good self catering accomodation!
Situated in a wooded site in the Cairngorms area Heather Holiday Homes make a great base for exploring.
We stocked up on supermarket food as we were able to cook all our meals in the cabin, there is also a cafe/restaurant in the adjacent garden centre. We had looked at b and bs in the locality but those still available were rather expensive, this gave us everything we'd need at a reasonable price. It is a family run business and we were made to feel very welcome and at home. There are many whisky distilleries just a short drive away as well as Cairngorm mountain, a visit to the reindeer herd is highly recommended as it was one of the highlights of our Scotland trip!
