About the hotel

A superb country house retreat set in a 300 acre working farm amidst picturesque and tranquil countryside in the beautiful county of Monmouthshire. The Celyn, which means 'Holly', boasts oak beams, traditional wood burning stoves and is a beautiful location from which to base your stay in this area. All rooms have panoramic views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain and Gwryne Fawr River.

We are set in a peaceful and relaxing area 4 miles south of Crickhowell and 5 miles north of Abergavenny. We are conveniently located for super walks, bike rides and other tourist activities. The Celyn is ideal for a weekend get-away or a mid-week break. Situated just off the A465 we are only a 10 minute drive from the nearest train station. Yet the property enjoys doorstep access to a host of footpaths and bridleways to take you on gentle strolls, or more challenging terrain of the unspoilt surrounding peaks of the Black Mountains. We guarantee a warm welcome and a traditional welsh breakfast to set you on your adventure. We make the most of fresh local produce supporting nearby producers, from the water in your room which is sourced from the local spring to the bacon with the breakfast from the local butchers. We ensure that we go that extra mile to make your stay special

A dream stay in the Countryside of Wales

My partner and I have a lovely afternoon and evening at the Celyn Farmhouse.

I say it is a dream because it is our dream house situated in the perfect surroundings. It is an older couple who have built a house and sharing it. Income goes to the farm which was a nice thought. Breakfast is sources locally. There are pubs to eat for dinner 2-7 miles away in the villages nearby.

We ate at The Bear, which was a recommendation, 4 miles away, it was superb. We came back and sat outside on a bench/table and chairs with a few glasses of wine, looking over the fields it was just beautiful, so relaxing, wish we lived there. It got a bit chilly so we came indoors and sat in the guest lounge rather than our smaller room. There is a large stone fireplace and 3 large sofas, very comfy I even fell asleep whilst my partner continued to watch TV. As it was a last minute booking, we were unaware of the room sizes, just 1 type left which was the small double. The bed was very small for the 2 of us but ok for the price. It was a very comfortable and cosy bed though. Woke up to hearing the sheep and cows - loved it.

A full english was offered, black pudding optional, it all was delicious. Cerials, fruit and toast was also offered along with juice, coffee and tea.

Hosts were very accommodating and friendly, felt at home in the dining room. Sat and spoke to another couple who had been there the whole week. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, such friendly down to earth people and amazing surroundings make it. Look forward to come again soon!
