Two old school friends and their wives have transformed the fortunes of Petersfield's oldest pub. Simon Hawkins and Robin Canty first met at school at the tender age of 11, now almost 40 years later they have come together again to rescue The Old Drum, a 16th Century Inn in the heart of Petersfield. With their wives, Suzi and Be, they have uncovered and restored a previously unloved and unfrequented building, and turned it into a thriving, bustling pub/restaurant with rooms.
Since opening at the beginning of July 2012, the pub has gone from strength to strength. Where once H. G. Wells sat and wrote, Petersfield citizens are now enjoying local real ales and great seasonal food prepared by Simon Hartnett, the Head Chef. Simon has recently been awarded an AA rosette for his stunning food, with the promise of more to come.
Our rooms have achieved 4 AA stars with a gold award for quality. Homemade biscuits, a selection of teas and coffees and a complementary dram of whisky are there to welcome you. Luxurious mattresses, fluffy duvets and Egyptian cotton sheets guarantee an excellent night's sleep.
Downstairs there are three open fires, leather sofas, a stunning garden for when the sun shines and happy, smiling staff. Digby, the pub Jack Russell, will also make sure you are properly welcomed.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
