A 'Warm' Welcome
As we arrived at Arkleside the temperature had almost reached 30 degrees C, and the welcome from Hannah was almost as warm.
Located in a nice quiet corner of the village the views from this guest house are stunning. Its nicely decorated, although the curtains could have worked a little better, but the Kingsize bed was sooooo comfy and everything smelled beautifully clean. Bottled water and bathroom accessories were a nice touch which I never expect in guest houses and all the windows had been opened, so we didn't walk into an 'oven' (it was very hot outside). Apart from the electrical storm just after midnight the bed was so comfy both me and my husband slept like logs. Up, showered and ready for breakfast, we were not disappointed , fresh fruit in little kilner jars kept in a countertop fridge, as was the milk and orange juice (proper juice) were a wonderful touch and I took full advantage. Our full English breakfasts were cooked to perfection with quality ingredients and all the right questions were asked, ' would we like our tea and coffee immediately or wait until the cooked bit of breakfast arrived, would we like our toast with our cooked breakfast or after, most places would just bring it as and when, but the questions were as welcome as was the warm, crispy toast after the bacon and eggs. All in all a very enjoyable stay, although because I had booked through Laterooms and they had asked me for payment card details, this had not been passed onto Terry at Arkleside and I was asked if I could pay on a debit card, rather than a credit card. Not a problem for me, but might have been for others.
The owners are lovely and couldn't do enough for us.
We were offered a choice of rooms and the we would have taken the very spacious annexe had we been staying for longer. Although our room had low ceiling areas the view was spectacular. Breakfast was excellent and overall I would say it was good value for money.
