Such a shame
I feel rather guilty writing to criticise this accommodation because, in general terms, it’s hard to fault.
It's reasonably priced, well situated for the town centre, it’s clean and tidy, the room in which I stayed was spacious and comfortable and the staff member who lived on site, and who assisted me, was so obliging and helpful that it seems almost wrong to complain, but complain I must.
I arrived at 3.00PM and wished to take a shower before going out for the evening, but when I went to turn the shower on there was no power. I reported this to the aforementioned staff member who tried to rectify the problem but couldn't so she rang the owner. She told me the hotel/guesthouse was fully booked, and as such she couldn't move me to another room, but because of my need to shower and to go out she kindly offered the facilities in her room which I gratefully accepted. NB: Fortunately the en-suite toilet and sink in my room were in working order. After showering I was informed that I could use the communal bathrooms [on the upper floors] if I wished to shower in the morning, and as recompense for this inconvenience, the owners had offered a free drink from the bar.
I understand that things like this can happen but what irritates me is this...I reported this problem at 4.00PM and nothing at all was done about it. I went out for the evening at 7.00PM [returning after midnight] so, in my opinion, there was nothing stopping the owners from attempting repair in my absence; if successful this would have allowed me to shower in the privacy of my room the following morning as opposed to having to walk through a communal/dining area, occupied by other guests , looking dishevelled with a selection of personal hygiene accoutrements in hand... a situation which, I believe, would leave most people feeling rather upset and embarrassed.
