Bit like 'The Young Ones'.
Very convenient location for both Birmingham City Centre and Solihull and only £35.
But apart from that it was pretty horrible all round. Dirty carpets and decor in a lot of need of redoing, key card system not working so had to be let back into the room by member of staff, no mugs, only half a toilet roll, no milk, no waste paper bin, no glasses, only one pillow each, no teabags, no plug for basin, TV remote didn't work and no heating and hot water in morning. We were greeted in the morning when I opened the curtains to a view of the roof which looked as if a dustbin had been emptied on it, even a pair of grubby men's pants included. They were obviously very busy getting ready for a busy night in the curry house downstairs when we arrived so took a while to check in. But I will say as soon as I reported that certain basics were needed they got them ready for when we returned from our night out. I only asked for a loo roll and something to drink out of though. The bedding was clean as were the towels and it was warm and lots of hot water in the evening. I very much doubt that we will be staying there again, unless desperate. But what do you expect for the money. It reminded me of some of the grotty places I lived in as a student in the 1980's.
Food - great/Hotel - worst ever
I actually think this hotel should be shut down.
Even at £25 per night it is a shocker. I had booked for 4 nights, on arrival was able to cancel 1 of the nights and actually stayed for 2....even that was a struggle. Cracked mirrors, missing tiles, badly marked wash basin and shower cabinet, no bedside lights working, intermittent signal for tv, no wifi, no rubbish bin, shower door not working, stains on ceiling, bags of washing dumped in the stairwell......I could go on and on....On a positive note the linen was clean and fresh (otherwise I would have walked out immediately) and the owner (?) very apologetic about the state of the room....it seemed to be a Laterooms issue to get the money back so cut my losses and left after two nights....if only I had arrived earlier in the day, knew the city and hotels were easy to find ..... The food in the restaurant below was very good, but the service bizarre, loads of people who knew little about the menu/prices/ingredients.....seemed more like a social space for friends...
