Elegance at the edge of the Pennines
One place where one should not be put off by the absence of ensuite facilties.
As long as one can walk a few paces, having one's own private palatial bathroom is surely as good, particularly with an extra washbasin in the room too. Several home-made options at breakfast, and all of those tried were very good. If we have the need to stay in the south of co. Durham again in the near future we should have no hesitation in going back. Location was good, just far enough from castle etc. to make parking easy to find on a Saturday afternoon.
Courteous, excellent, all you would expect and more.
