About the hotel
Turtley Corn Mill has had a varied history, originally built as a Mill, then converted into a famous chicken hatchery, finally becoming a pub in the 1970's. The setting of Turtley is idyllic; located in the beautiful and varied area of Avonwick, South Hams the original Mill is set in six acres of grounds bordered by the River Glazebrook, we even have our own small lake complete with an island, perfect for sunny days and idle wandering. Perhaps surprisingly for such a picturesque location, Turtley Corn Mill is conveniently located just 2 minutes from the A38 making it easily accessible from all directions.
Turtley was completley renovated by the current owners, with the addition of the bedrooms. The interiors are light and fresh, with a noticeable absence of fruit machines, music, or pool tables, all thoughtfully replaced wth newspapers to read, books to browse, great food and beers and interesting wines. We have four double en-suite rooms here at Turtley, all with a shower and one with a bath, and all are designed and fitted out to the standard now expected by those who travel regularly. Each room is equipped with king-sized beds, duck feather and down duvets, Egyptian cotton linen, Sky free view, flat screen TV’s, free internet connection and powerful, spacious showers and other thoughtful additions for your comfort and relaxation.

Really good stay.
Helpful cheerful staff. Room well equipped & comfortable . Breakfast was superb.
Pleasant room, shame about the food
The room was was comfortable and very clean but a bit cramped due to the large furniture and a double sofa.
It was annoying to have to go into the communal corridor to make a cup of tea in the morning. It was, unfortunately, pouring with rain the night we were there and the leaking gutter just outside our window was quite noisy. Then there's the restaurant.... We shared some pitta bread and hummus as a small starter but as is the way these days, the main course was served at the convenience of the staff rather than ourselves and arrived before we had finished our ' nibbles'. Unfortunately the duck 'pie' contained only a few a few strands of meat, under a mound of soggy potato. It should have been a braised duck leg under there, according to the menu. The game pie was a corner section so a lot of pastry and a shortage of meat. We declined dessert. We requested lightly cooked scrambled egg for breakfast but no luck ; it came overcooked and rather tasteless (nice smoked salmon though).
