Good Room, Bad Restaurant
We paid on arrival which isn't normal, one would usually expect to pay on departure.
Breakfast was nice but missing items weren't alerted to us and breakfast was just brought out minus the missing items, with no replacement. Room was nice, free wi-fi which is always a bonus and the view was lovely. Location was great and the town itself is very nice. Dinner was a bit of a shambles, I think perhaps the main chef was off and all the main kitchen and restaurant staff were off as well. Other eaters waited a long time for their food and certain bill items were forgotten by the staff, and other diners were heard complaining. In particular, my salad had half a strawberry in, not sure where the other half was, my chips were undercooked and my Mum's poppadom was undercooked as well, and the microwaved rice wasn't adequately separated.
When asked about drinks, a tea was ordered and "how many sugars?" was asked. The tea (which was a half-filled small tea cup) was then brought over with the requested sugars already in it and stirred, which isn't usually customary when ordering tea. Staff were friendly enough, but I've encountered more accommodating people. Overall, the room and hotel was nice but the food was not. 5/10.
Budget accommodation but could still do with some basic improvements
This was a budget trip and the hotel is a budget hotel so if you are after cheap accommodation, this might suit you.
I was hoping for something a little better and they should sort out the smelly stairway (perhaps a new carpet?!). There was an old water stain on the ceiling where the roof valley had leaked previously and this should have been attended to. Some of the light bulbs didn't work and these ought to be checked regularly by the staff. That said, the bedding was fresh and clean, the room and facilities functional and frill-free. I think with a little effort/investment, this could be a great place to stay at instead of, in my view, something just functional.
