Absolutely excellent!

Stayed here with a friend for the night before a trip to Alton Towers and just expected cheap, clean accommodation.

The Black Cow surpassed all my expectations and I was very impressed. Having started in a nearby b&b last year and paid considerably more for a disappointing standard there's no doubt I'd come here again and will recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Awful room, cold and colder service

I was freezing all night and I could not turn on the radiator.

When I mentioned this in the morning over my luke warm, average breakfast, I was made to feel stupid like I did not know how to turn on a radiator. I'm a 6 foot 16 stone rugby player - i'm strong enough to turn on a rad!. The proprietor went off to turn on the rad which he must have done with a wrench - but not hint of an apology. He did say in a rather grumpy tone that he would not charge me for the room but later when I checked out he said if I stay again remind him and I will get a discount. 'Right' I said. I will not be staying again that's for sure. Rude service, freezing room and no heating in the bathrooms even if it was working and the breakfast was almost cold too. Miss this place.
