Very good accommodation
Very clean tidy and friendly staff.
Food was also very good.
An enjoyable stay.
Me and my father-in-law travelled down to Plymouth to buy a car, so needed a room for an overnight stay prior to making the trip home.
Prices in Plymouth itself are, quite frankly, ridiculous, so I widened the search area and dropped onto The Bell at Broadway. Firstly, it's a proper village pub, always a good thing in my opinion as you're much more likely to find a good atmosphere and some decent beer. The Bell provided both. The staff behind the bar, where we checked in, were friendly and efficient - one of the young ladies walked us to our room which was in an annexed at the back of the pub. We had a twin room - not big, granted, but it was perfectly adequate, and it was clean and nicely presented. Food in the evening was good - we both had cod and chips, which was reasonably priced and went down nicely. We had a full English breakfast the next morning, and it was a cracker. Freshly cooked, not a hint of grease anywhere, and plenty of it - there was also a choice of cereals, fruit juice and as much toast as you wanted. Oh, and proper coffee too - well done on that The Bell, because so many places don't make the effort. We met the landlord for the first time just prior to breakfast - a very friendly and gregarious chap who couldn't do enough for us. We paid £27.50 each for our stay, including breakfast. I refuse to not pick at places like The Bell, especially when the prices are so reasonable. We could have paid well over double that to stay in a clinical, chain hotel in Plymouth, and no doubt many do, but I'd much rather stay at a place like The Bell any day - a local business providing good service and excellent value for money. Take any criticism on here with a pinch of salt, some people just don't 'get' local pubs.
