What a little gem of a hotel!

What a find.

A wonderful welcome to this beautiful building, and then into the lovely large room. It was absolutely spotless and yes as per many other reviews the decor isn't contemporary but neither is the hotel. The bed was comfy, the shower great, lots of milk on the tea tray :). We slept well although room is as the front of the hotel it's set back from the road so no noise at all. Then up for a fantastic cooked to order breakfast, fantastic fruit and yoghurts, homemade bread for the toast and the preserves all homemade too. Service fantastic, attentive polite and welcoming from all staff. We like cockermouth as a cheaper alternative to staying in Keswick and great pubs and restaurants. We will be back in another trip to the lakes for sure, and although we didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, after having the breakfast and seen the wine selection on offer I think I would eat there next time. Great value for money, doing things properly, unlike the trout hotel opposite where we had a noisy night in a small and expensive room and undercooked breakfast - all style and no substance. This place is well worth a visit would recommend to anyone.
