Pontorson Hotel De France Et Auban
Good hotel but bedrooms at little dated but clean.
Stairs only no lift in then annex known as Hotel De France. Across the rail track a pretty terrance as part of Hotel De France Et Auban. No facilities in the bedroom annex. It was ok but nothing really special.
I booked a double room for one night due to availability and prices.
First of all, one has to note that I travelled during the low season. Most hotels, I noted while walking around Pontorson, were closed. The same appeared to be the case with Hotel de France. There are two hotels side by side, and Hotel de France seemed to be closed and entry was instead via the other hotel. The staff tell me that they are under the same ownership and just have two entries, and entry while I was there was through the other hotel's door. It would have been confusing if you hadn't known about it, I dare say. I had read about this in another review so I was forewarned.
The hotel's location is ideal. It is situated right opposite the train station and in the centre of the village. Everything is of course within 5 minutes' walk as it's a very small place. Eating places are not numerous in the dead of winter at night, nonetheless there are quite a few options on the main street of the village. If you wish to take the bus to Mont St Michel, the bus stop is about 5 minutes away and easily found. I myself walked and as expected, it is a 2 hour walk from the village.
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly - the best I have ever known. They provided information about the region and about the buses and so on - everything you'd want to know. The room was an en suite. I have only one complaint - my side of the building seemed to smell of stale or waste water. It was a faint smell and after a while you get used to it, but still. The room and bathroom themselves were spotlessly clean, and very pleasantly furnished in a modern way, with a nice big window in the room. The wifi was good and the heating was perfect.
Overall I loved my stay there and would recommend the hotel.
