It was the home of the Victorian writer and scholar the Reverend Charles Kingsley who in the nineteenth century wrote several childrens' books including The Water Babies and Westward Ho! As a social reformer he actively challenged the abject poverty suffered by agricultural workers at the time. He was friends with the American writer Harriet Beecher Stowe (Uncle Tom's Cabin) who visited him in Eversley in the 1850's. The Kingsley was built in the late 1800's for Charles' daughter, Georgina Rose Kingsley. Her garden was a talking-point in the neighbourhood for its fine roses.

A little gem, that's a real home from home
Can't recommend The Kingsley highly enough.
Personal service that no chain can hope to match. Warm welcome; good food and excellent range of Spanish wines. Well equipped room.
Better than stated on the tin!
Description was small single room.
Well it wasn't big but a very long way from the smallest I have stayed in. The bed was somewhere between a large single and a small double and comfortable. TV big and excellent picture, shower very good, toilet an art. For the area very good rate and nice pub within 3 minutes walk. Breakfast good, nice ambiance about the place. One comment (which is totally outside the owner's control), if you are going there for the first time by Sat Nav you will probably end up at the pub which is about 200 yds away. The entrance to the hotel is awkward to negotiate made worse by a local ban on street lighting
