About the hotel
We are located a stone's throw from Richmond's magnificent Norman Castle and only a short walk to the spectacular River Swale. We would be pleased to offer you a warm welcome to our establishment. We serve excellent cask ales, beers and lagers together with a wide range of wines, spirits and soft drinks.
We also serve home cooked traditional pub food at both lunch and dinner. The Castle Tavern is a Grade II listed building with plenty of character and charming original features can be seen throughout the pub. We have an open plan bar area with plenty of space. Richmond, North Yorkshire is a town of unique character and beauty which has changed little through the centuries. With the variety of shopping and its many pubs, hotels and restaurants, the proximity to the most stunning scenery anywhere to be seen, Richmond remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to visit in the Country. The Yorkshire Dales has outstanding scenery, a diversity of wildlife habitats, a rich cultural heritage and peacefulness. In 1954, 1769 square kilometres was designated a national park in recognition of these most important qualities. The Dales lie astride the Pennines in the north of England in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria There are over 20 main dales, differing much from each other in character and atmosphere. To the south of the area lies a highly populated industrial area while to the north thinly settled uplands stretch to the Tees and beyond. About 20,000 people live in the scattered farms, villages and small market towns of the Dales. The Army base of Catterick Garrison is only a ten minute drive away for families visiting or those attending the Garrison on business.

great little pub in excellent location
We stayed 2 nights at the Castle Tavern on 6th to 8th of March 2015.
We really enjoyed our stay. The pub serves some nice beers and the food was great and at a reasonable price. It gets quite busy on a weekend but not noisy. The room was a nice size and bed was very comfy. We would stay here again if we return to Richmond for a weekend break. Very dog friendly. Possibly take our cavalier king charles with us next time,as most pubs and food places allowed dogs.
The Castle Tavern
Staff helpful and friendly. Room basic but comfortable. Expected
For age of hotel. Bed was ok. Bed linen not brilliant but clean. (No top sheets. Which personal preference I would have liked) but quilt cover clean. Breakfast was brilliant and plentiful. All round a lovely pub comfortable room friendly staff.
