The hotel was really excellent room clean beds are large everything great apart from the air con fan...ours was constantly on which I expect in a hotel but ours squeaked or a worling noise sounded as though on a space craft so I didn't get a great deal of sleep and the maintenance staff don't work wkend still didn't spoil our stay too much and would book again as these things happen just shame didn't sleep
Hilton Doubletree, Brayford Pool, Lincoln
My wife and I booked into the above hotel for a night as part of a weekend in Lincolnshire.
We have previously stayed at two Doubletrees and also at Hilton brands before, the best in our opinion being the Hilton at York. This is a new hotel and is in a fabulous location overlooking Brayford Pool, right in the centre of Lincoln. Likes:
Quality of fittings in room
No "soul". The hotel feels bland and sterile despite the quality of it's fittings. There was simply no atmosphere at all, with large empty spaces such as reception feeling quite intimidating. It was significant that although the hotel was full the night we were there, very few people dined in the Electric restaurant. We did, and the food was good, but overpriced and a very limited choice. In fairness, the restaurant is about to be converted to a Pierre Marco White brand (why does everyone have to jump onto this branded bandwagon, don't they have enough confidence in the Doubletree brand?), but this was not reflected in the price. Our meal cost £68 for two of us from a limited choice and included a glass of wine each and a bottle of tap water for which we were charged £2.80. The city centre waterfront was heaving (we went for a walk after dinner), and there was the answer to the almost empty restaurant: we could have eaten a very nearly as good meal along the waterfront for probably £20-£25 less cost - and enjoying a close up view of the Pool area. There is a choice of at least 20 decent eateries within 10 minutes walk of the Doubletree, mostly at lower, much lower cost. Our room had literally no natural light. It was up against another building and you could not get about without the artificial lights on. Also, it had no natural ventilation either, just air conditioning which has it's place, but not at the total exclusion of real air from the outside. Inadequate car parking. We arrived at c 5pm and the car park was full. It only has 40 spaces apparently and costs £12 overnight. As a tip for future visitors, the nearby Lucy Towers car park is £7.50 for 24 hours and 2 minutes walk from the hotel, with easier access. We won't be staying at this Doubletree again. It may suit other visitors, but for us the lack of atmosphere, lack of natural light in our room (329) and high prices (total cost for one night DBB was £197), means that we can and will find better value and ambience elsewhere. A shame as the hotel has many good points, and the above comments are no reflection on the mainly young staff, whom we found to be universally cheerful and helpful.
