About the hotel
Set in the heart of the Weald of Kent, in one of Cranbrook’s most historic buildings, The George Hotel has earned a reputation for being one of Kent’s foremost boutique hotels with a highly-rated restaurant and brasserie. Built to cater for the travelling merchants of England’s burgeoning broadcloth industry, The George dates back to 1300 and was visited by Queen Elizabeth in 1573. Flanked by two full suits of armour, the magnificent staircase leads up to 12 individually-designed rooms, including the one where Elizabeth spent the night, which combine period features with striking contemporary décor.
The hotel is listed in both The Good Food Guide and Alistair Sawday’s Special Places to Stay. As well as distinctive food and accommodation, The George serves traditional Kentish cask ale, kept in perfect condition. There is also a choice of international lagers and a good wine list, carefully selected to complement the excellent cuisine. Guests can also get away from it all by relaxing in the wisteria patio garden. The hotel is ideally located for exploring Kent and Sussex and visiting the numerous attractions the area has to offer, such as Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Penshurst Place and the Cinque ports of Tenterden and Rye.

Welcome overnight stay in Cranbrook
We knew the hotel from a previous visit and were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the room and breakfast.
Very comfortable room with interesting features. Staff were very welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend.
We'd expected a little more
The staff were very helpful and friendly, however, we were a little disappointed by the room.
We found long black hair in the bed before we had even touched it (none of us has long black hair and neither did the room service/cleaning lady) and the window was directly located next to the kitchen exhaust, so the room slightly smelled of deep frying fat. The bathroom was nice but might need a little renovating at some stage to match the expectations of guests who paid for high quality accommodation. A decent hotel in the town centre with nice service, but if you come to beautiful Cranbrook, you might be better off staying in a B&B, as you might not get the standard you'd expect at the George.
