About the hotel
The Richard Onslow has ten lovely en suite bedrooms with all the little comforts you’d find at home. Each one’s newly refurbished, and simply but stylishly decorated in keeping with the pub’s age, making the most of the original fireplaces and low doors. Some overlook the hustle and bustle of the high street, others have a view over our sunny patio hidden away at the back of the pub.
We have doubles with king-size beds, twins and a family room. There’s even a box room if you just want somewhere cosy to hole up for the night, plus a fully accessible double room on the ground floor. All of them have really comfy beds, great linen, power showers and lovely toiletries, as well as mod cons like flat-screen TV with Free view, free WiFi and an iPod adaptor. Harkback pieces like antique chests and armoires are carefully teamed with stylish, contemporary artwork, giving each room an individual feel. You can make your own tea and coffee whenever you want to, there’s a hair dryer in every room and a place to iron if you have a shirt that needs pressing. Stay with us any night of the week and find a friendly welcome, great food and drink downstairs and the perfect spot to escape from it all.

Parking for Guests needs to be genuinely reserved for Guests!
The pub advertises "parking onsite", however on arrival, it was not at all clear where we should park - no signs indicating which way to go, I just guessed to turn through the archway behind the pub, and then found a space reserved for one of the local businesses.
Turns out there is one space for each of the 10 rooms, and all are clearly signed as such in the space. But ALL of them were full when we turned up (to the extent that the signs were not even visible when looking for where to park!)
At check-in, a staff member asked me to look again, and if there was definitely not a space, he would get a colleague to move. This we did, verifying that all the Richard Onslow signed spaces were full, and reported back. Rather than wait, we went to dump our bag in the room. By the time we came back to the car park to move our car, whichever space had been vacated for us was once again full. So a second member of staff was sent out to move their car, muttering as she did so about "Some of our Regulars..."
In my opinion this is not acceptable. A space reserved for the guest in a room is part of the room rate, and should not be used by staff or "regulars" - unless they want to pay for the room for the night themselves. Prior to our stay, I'd had emails inviting me to book dinner (which I already had done anyway). What would have been much more helpful would be an email checking what time I expected to arrive, telling me exactly where to park, and undertaking to ensure that the space would be available. That should not be hard to arrange, and would make such a difference to a pleasant stay. Faffing about with parking arrangements is no way to welcome a paying guest after their journey. Also, as another reviewer has noted, Breakfast took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive, for which there is no excuse as the place was by no means busy.
was a quiet pleasant stay, staff were helpfull and friendly.
