Lovely Modern Room
We stayed here on a bank holiday weekend so we did pay quite a lot for a room.
However, we had a lovely stay, the bed was comfortable and big, the room was modern and well decorated and clean. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anybody wanting a nice night away.
Extremely disappointing stay!
Having often visited the Golden Fleece when younger I was looking forward to going back there again and enjoying the warm atmosphere and the famous cave bar.
However, upon check in we were taken down the road to a completely different hotel to the one we had booked on line. Not sure what theTrading Standards people would make of that. To make matters worse this other place was still being refurbished so was a bit of a mess. Our room was single size but with a double bed squeezed in, and with all the other furniture in there we could hardly move. A lack of rails and hooks in the small en suite meant we had nowhere to hang our wet towels to dry, so had to hang them over the door meaning we couldn't close it. Even if we could have, it was difficult to manoeuvre in and out with the bath and sink in the way. Each time we used the shower, the bathroom floor flooded so we had to mop up the water. Even though the wind wasn't particularly bad, we were both woken several times in the night by the windows rattling. The bed/mattress was uneven and uncomfortable, it just felt cheap and well worn. All in all it was en extremely disappointing stay and I do not believe the room was worth anywhere near the £84.99 a night we paid. I travel a lot and in my experience 50% of that rate would have been fair and honest. When we were there the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, but my follow up complaints were not satisfactorily dealt with and effectively fell on deaf ears. Very disappointing!
