Nice hotel, hard beds and restaurant staff didn't look very happy to be there!

The hotel overall was aesthetically pleasing.

Done to a high standard. I booked a double room with breakfast. It was a good job I read the small print and took an extra tenner with me because this price was only for one breakfast which I found a bit bizarre as it was a package deal for two. The food was nice, but very over priced for the actual experience. The bar/grill staff all looked very miserable and definitely not like they wanted to be there serving us. At some points we felt rather awkward as they were talking between themselves looking over at us, it was 7pm and we were the only people in the restaurant at the time. We expected a mind blowing experience in this restaurant with its Michelin approval and a couple of other awards that are in the window, but it was average and expensive for the quality. After dinner we retired back to the room. A silly thing but we noticed the lifts were incredibly slow and creepy for a new looking hotel. The room was nice enough, very old flat screen tv built into the wall with basic channels and the picture quality was awful. Basic tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was well decorated but really needed a light above the shower as it was dark and inconvenient. If you like a comfy bed do not stay here. The mattress was very very hard. There were no lumps and bumps or anything like that but the mattress was like a slab. We both commented in the morning how much our backs hurt and that we didn't have a very good nights sleep considering the price of the room for one night.

I booked this as a surprise for my partner and it's the first time we have managed to get away on our own without the children for five years. We are Very bit disappointed that we didn't get the wow factor inside like you do driving up to the place, as we will not be able to do this again for a very long time.
