Lovely staff, terrible hotel!

I stayed here for two nights with my partner, and several of our friends were staying at the hotel as well and all of us had a terrible, terrible time.

The staff were really friendly and lovely and I can't fault them, and at first I thought the hotel had a faded glamour sort of charm, but the bathroom was so old fashioned and the shower and taps wouldn't turn off when you eventually managed to turn them on (they were rusted stiff!), the bed was so bad you could feel all of the springs and we didn't get any sleep at all. It was boiling hot and there were no air conditioning, our bedroom door didn't lock, you can hear everything from every other room. I could have overlooked most of this if it wasn't for a bed that made my worst student accommodation look luxurious!

Pretty Good

Wasn't expecting much reading the reviews but overall it was pretty good.

Hotel is a lovely building and yes its in need of a re-fresh and some TLC but I much prefer this than some soulless box of a Travelodge. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Only let down was breakfast - it was a busy Sunday morning but the staff couldn't seem to cope and people were going 20 - 30 mins without being served and in general they didn't seem well organised enough and being busy just exposed this. We nearly gave up on it but just in time the food came through and it was ok. Overall (and having stayed at most alternatives) this is a good option in Lancaster and one I would use again.
