About the hotel

Whether you’re planning to explore historic Norwich or soak up the scenery of the Norfolk Broads, you’d be hard pushed to find a hotel as perfectly placed as this. Nestled in a lovely spot on the banks of the River Yare, opposite Whittingham Country Park, the lodge houses 14 warm and welcoming rooms as well as a Crown Carvery. So you can enjoy the tranquility of the area with your choice of roast, freshly steamed vegetables, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds.

Norwich has some of the best medieval architecture in Britain with a Norman motte and bailey castle and a fine cathedral dating back to 1096. It’s also home to the Norfolk Broads, the largest protected wetlands in the country. They’re a mecca for sailors, motor-boaters, canoeists and fishing enthusiasts – although walkers, bird watchers and cyclists will find plenty to do without having to get wet. Norwich Aviation Museum is just up the road, too.

No staff?

Nice position with gardens running down to the waters edge on one of the main roads into Norwich.

When I arrived at approx 7pm the ONE person on the bar was busy serving drinks and taking food orders. I waited, then I waited some more, I would estimate about 15minutes in all. Eventually I was shown to my room which was functional although being immediately facing the main road at ground level, suffered from traffic noise. Also the shower, which was of good quality, was unfortunately partly broken i.e. the attachment to hold the shower head to the shower rail was missing. The carvery was fine and good value. The included breakfast turned out to be continental but perfectly fine.

It was not the best Innkeeper that I have stayed at but perhaps on the night it was made worse by the apparent lack of staff.

In the interests of balance I should say that the barman/manager offered me a complementary glass of wine !

It's okay

The hotel room was a good quality but it's not like a normal hotel were you can food delivered to your room you can get take out from the pub downstairs but it was disgusting.

The standard of the room was good but could do with having a bath mat in the bathroom you can get one from reception but seems more sense to provide one anyway just my standards. The breakfast was okay but could do with being replaced through out the serving as when I got down there at 8.30 all the pastries had gone and all other people's children were running and pick more and more food up hoarding it to there table. It's in a lovely location and we had a lovely view of the river outside our window it's okay if your prepared to drive further to have a nice meal. Overall it's was good for a last minute deal
