Champneys Henlow Ltd

Poor Customer Service.

Bed and breakfast stay, an English breakfast was an additional charge. Where fruit and museli were the choces. Booked a spa treatment on 22nd and was moved to 21st without any notice. Food took 30 mins to serve for a cooked English breakfast. The manager was clueless and provided no customer care.

Nice venue-shame about the staff shortage!

Booked this stay as a means of ensuring an early arrival at the Old Warden airshow.

Place looked good on the website and company has a reputation for quality. Positives: All the staff we met were friendly and keen to help make our stay a success. Restaurant service was good and food healthy and good value. The house was imposing and the modern sections sensitively integrated with the original buildings. The room was modern and as was the rest of the venue in good decorative order. Areas for improvement:

External telephone contact with the The Grange was impossible. 25 calls in a 90 minute period to confirm our booking and make a dinner reservation were diverted to an advertising line with no person answering no matter how long you tolerated being on hold. Despite your assurances, I concluded my call was not important to you. I emailed the venue to confirm we required a double, not twin bedded, room. No reply was received. I requested that a double room was need at check in and was assured that a double was being provided. On gaining entrance to the room, a twin bedded room was what was provided. Called reception who assured me the bed could be converted. Waited 45 minutes with no response then had to evacuate due to a fire alarm sounding. We were the only people at the muster point and no one stood down the muster. Reported to reception and waited 20 minutes whilst the single receptionist checked out a party of eight. Requested that the bed could be converted whilst we were at dinner. Agreed a time of 8 pm. Housekeeping arrived at 7:15 whilst we were changing for dinner - much embarassed rapid dressing to accommodated housekeeper who claimed she had phoned ahead and that the phone must be faulty. All in all, the symptoms of an under staffed operation in the hotel functions of the venue. As we were not staying to take advantage of the Spa facilities which seemed to be running smoothly. Efficiency and 'lean' operations are fine but this seemed to have been cut to the point of virtual collapse - not a happy experience for the staff in post orthe guests.
