A hidden gem

I travel a lot both for work and for fun, and while I appreciate some of the chain hotels for the loyalty rewards, I like to explore different options, ones with history and character.

This has character in abundance. Loveingly restored, the building interior is grand, with elegance and fun. The host is a great chap who is both intelligent and humourous, and readily available but never intrusive. My room was the largest room I have had since a suite in Waldorf on the bund in Shanghai, and it wasnt far off that. The bed was comfy and the views across the valley were a lovely wake up.

Bathroom clean and adequateky equipped- hard to find any faults if you do love character. Stay ended with a great cooked breakfast and i cant wait to return

Lovely house and excellent breakfast

Booked last minute for one night @£79 returning to Cornwall.

Lovely Georgian house(listed), magnificent entrance hall and staircase. 20x20ft square bedroom with lovely views to the Blackdown Hills and the Vale of Taunton. Booked a twin but it turned out to be a king. Faded elegance in places but nothing to get upset about. Excellent cooked breakfast with best coffee we've tasted in a long time. Elegant dining room with a shared table, which we aren't keen on but as we were the only visitors so it wasn't a problem. Charming owners and a completely different experience to a "normal" B&B or chain hotel. Guest rooms are in one wing and would suit a group/family. Easy to get to and close to Taunton and Wellington.
