Inadequately small room

The room we were in was a double en suite, however it would have been a cramped single room.

The bed took up the entire room, literally as you exited the en suite your knees hit the bed. I was left feeling decidedly claustrophobic, also the bed was extremely uncomfortable, had a very poor nights sleep. Quite disappointed as the place had such good reviews. On a positive note the decor was nice and everywhere was spotlessly clean (except the windows in the room which were in desperate need of cleaning). Also the parking wasn't up to much, no off street parking and the surrounding streets are resident permit holders only, was informed upon arrival there were no more visitors permits, and directed towards three bays at the back of a local business, was half expecting to be clamped come the morning. As it happened both my wife and I were so fed up with the place we left just after 7am to go home. I would not recommend the armada guesthouse.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us.

Regarding the size of the room: on the Laterooms.com description for this type of room, it clearly states: “Please note that whilst this a double en-suite room, there is limited floor space available; it is suitable for shorter stays. Should you require a larger room, please consider our Superior Twin or Double. “

As I asked the following morning, why did you not come to see us immediately if you were dissatisfied with the room. We would have happily offered you a free upgrade to one of our superior rooms?

In eleven years, we have never had a complaint about the bed comfort. All of our mattresses are of the highest standard, and are frequently replaced.

Thank you for pointing out the standard of cleanliness, however, the reason the windows were “in need of cleaning” is that we had just experienced two days of heavy sea fret. Our windows are, and have been for the last 11 years, cleaned once per fortnight.

Regarding car parking: you booked a town centre guesthouse, not a large hotel. Why did you expect off-street parking? Did you do any research? The local council does not issue enough permits for one per room. We showed you a safe, free alternative, within 20 yards of the guesthouse. As clearly explained to you, there were no parking restrictions, and you were in no danger of being clamped. We never put any of our guests in that position. We suspect this is just another one of your trumped-up, ill-founded reasons for seeking a substantial refund, to which you were clearly not deserving of. Nonetheless, following your call, you were given a 55% refund.

What a pity you did not stay for one of our award-winning breakfasts. All your “upset” could have been avoided by raising your concerns with us at the time, and your “anniversary” would not have been spoiled.

Excellent stay

A lovely place to stay.

The room was great andeal there was a very good choice of what to have for breakfast. If we ever get to those parts again would definitely stay there again. Thank you for a great stay.
