Ski break with freinds
I choose this hotel as a base for a small group of friends to rediscover skiing.
The city of Innsbruck is fantastic for short breaks, due to very short transfers to a wide range skiing villages, and a brilliant travel infrastructure. It is well served by low cost operators and is a true gem. One important criteria was a swimming pool to ease tired legs and bodies. Location walking distance to the ski lifts, (up hill, but there is a free bus every 10 minutes). We stayed on a B & B package thinking that we would be going into Innsbruck for some sophisticated evenings. Old tired bodies precluded this, but we found an incredible Italian restaurant just 100 meters away. (The old adage if its busy, then it is probably good applied here.)
Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Masses of storage space for ski gear and clothes. Breakfast was very good, with a wide range of choice. The dinner looked terrific too, though we did not eat it. Reception staff were first class, helping with all our requests and giving tips as to which resort to ski, and how best to use the free bus network. (Free with your ski gear.)
The spa facilities are excellent with a good sized indoor swimming pool for the whole family. The skiing was good but the snow was spring like towards the bottom station at Igls. Though a small but efficient lift system kept us entertained on the upper pistes allowing for lots of opportunity to improve technique. There are some great runs too, remember the great Franz Klammer won Olympic gold here in the seventies. All in all the hotel served as a great base to explore the Tyrol, and would recommend it to those who want a great value stay in a quite ski resort. The staff are very friendly and do their utmost to ensure you have a quality stay with them. Thank you to the whole team at the Sporthotel Igls.
