Disappointing stay not good value for money
We stayed at Fanhams early in the Year to help our daughter and son in law move into their new home in Bengeo.
As a treat we stayed at Fanhams for the night to give us some time out. We booked a small double in the courtyard it was small but the house and grounds made up for it. We are now about to depart from our 2nd visit and I must say I feel terrible sad. We thought we would treat ourselves to stay here again to a slightly upgraded room as we were attending a wedding in the surrounding area on the 28th. After spending almost 4 hrs on the motorway from Southampton which was a nightmare journey to say the least but we knew we had something to look forward to. The receptionists was very sweet on our arrival and asked us if we had stayed before to which we said yes. She told us we were staying in the house which sounded lovely, however after opening the door I was shocked to see how small it was. And this was an upgrade that we paid for. We both accepted the room as we were tired and just needed to retreat. Sadly our very small room overlooked the courtyard to the entrance where most of the wedding party congregated to smoke, scream, shout etc; this went on until past 12 midnight.
We are no kill joys and would have liked to have been told a wedding was taking place and also to take some time and effort to place non wedding guests not overlooking or near a noisey areas that might be a disturbance. This wasn't a cheap room. Sadly the breakfast was not a pleasant experience, more like a bun fight. Dishes not cleared, having to go and collect our poached eggs that I ordered 20mins prior, 1 tea bag in a pot of earl grey for two. There appeared only to be 3 waiting on staff, one in charge and a male trying to check everyone in but then it all went crazy mad in restaurant . I do apologise for my rant but our experience has been one of a big disappointment and we will be very cautious on a returning. Did express our disappointment on checkout and wrote an email to reservations as I really didn't wish to leave a bad review but wanted the option of someone to acknowledge our mail. Sadly this hasn't been the case. We would only stay again if we asked a few questions prior to booking.
