About the hotel
Appledown House Country Bed and Breakfast is set in a lovely rural location in the heart of the Devon countryside, just about as far away from the every day stresses and strains of your normal life as you want to be, yet less than 10 minutes drive from Tavistock and Dartmoor. Inspected by the Dartmoor Partnership, their assessor David Farrant, said: "Appledown House is a 1st class addition to our membership and is thoroughly recommended. Rooms are comfortable, light and airy, and well-furnished''.
The two bedrooms (both en-suite with showers) form the detached ground floor annexe and are interconnected via an adjoining door (useful for families/friends). The superior twin/superking has its own conservatory overlooking the outdoor pool and fabulous views towards Dartmoor and the double room with its tiny patio garden overlooks the front of the property. Well-behaved children are most welcome. We have ample off road parking for all our guests, together with secure bicycle storage and a drying area. Our outdoor swimming pool (open during the summer) is set in its own terrace within the south facing grounds of just under 3 acres. We make our own bread and yoghurt, source our bacon and sausages from our local butcher as well as provide Cornish butter and fresh free-range eggs for your breakfast along with fresh mushrooms and tomatoes (the latter home grown in season). There are several inns within 0. 5m and a variety of different eating experiences are available in nearby Tavistock. Dartmoor is virtually on the doorstep, yet our country retreat is only 3. 5 miles from the Stannary town of Tavistock. The City of Plymouth lies just 14 miles to the South whilst the M5 motorway and the Cathedral City of Exeter, with its international airport, can easily be accessed via the A30 dual carriageway. Tavistock is in a uniquely central position making visits to the rest of Devon and to most of Cornwall easy e. g Eden, Heligan, Truro and St Austell, St Ives, Mevagissey, Bideford, Bude, Padstow and Newquay in an hour or less, Plymouth and Looe less than 30 mins.

Great B and B
The friendliness and welcome from Jill made our stay in Devon a most pleasant experience.
She provided fresh coffee upon arrival, which after a 6hr car journey was much appreciated. We were told that if anything was needed we were only to ask, nothing was too much trouble. Even though Dave her husband was more reserved in nature he cooked a fantastic breakfast we thoroughly enjoyed. Homemade bread & yogurt was available and the sausages were locally sourced we were informed. The house is situated between Dartmoor & Bodmin moor so afforded us stunning views from our room. The only downside is the two rooms are very close so all conversation can be heard so if our friends had not been in the other accommodation could of been off putting. Would we want to stay again if in the area. Definitely, thank you Jill & Dave you work very hard.
Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to review your stay with us. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with your friends. We note your comment regarding noise from the adjoining room where your friends were staying. The walls between the rooms, and the two interconnecting doors are insulated to reduce noise but, of course, it's impossible to sound proof the rooms completely, no more could you in a normal house. You were a lively, friendly group and could be heard quite clearly at times so we're guessing you were having fun and enjoying yourselves! Thankfully, no other reviewers seem to have experienced a problem but we are grateful to you for pointing it out and will ensure guests, particularly where both rooms are occupied by friends/relatives, are warned that some noise may be heard.
