We were staying just one night whilst attending a function in the area.
The hostess was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us and we tested her a bit. The accommodation was clean and functional and quiet apart from the odd aeroplane flying over. However being out in the country there was a lot of insect life which found its way into the room - even to having a large moth in the bed. Breakfast was of the continental kind and help yourself with a microwave and egg cooker to heat up your own food. There was plenty of variety to suit all. The website said breakfast stopped at 0900, but on arrival we were told 1000 but we could be later if we wanted a lie in. These facilities were available to guests at anytime and we were encouraged to use the fridge to cool a bottle of wine.
A genuine surprise
The owner of an hotel is what makes a place special, or makes it a disaster.
Nadia Moghul has run this hotel for four years and the direction it is going in is very much her aspiration. I stay in many inexpensive hotels in my work but this was by far and away the cleanest of any I have stayed in, with spacious rooms and a bathroom that would put many four star hotels to shame. I score the room at five because I really have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world but for this lost little hotel, tucked away down a country lane and surrounded by meadows, it really was a treat. Nadia was very patient as I arrived so late and gave me excellent directions. It is not often you can have a genuinely intellectual discussion with the owner, either.
The breakfast is not a cooked one (hence 5, not 6) although the continental breakfast ingredients were good. This is a little hotel I will definitely use when I am next working in this area, and I restate my genuine admiration for the owner and what she is achieving. Well done, Nadia!
