About the hotel
Nestled at the bottom of South Westland alongside the Haast River, you will find the Heartland World Heritage Hotel. The hotel’s superb location, just 2 hours from the glaciers and 3 hours from Queenstown, makes it the ideal stopover point between the West Coast and the Southern Lakes. Haast is the gateway to the South Island’s rugged West Coast, one of the most breathtaking, untouched regions of New Zealand.
Here you can see rare wildlife in its natural habitat; walk in rainforests unchanged for thousands of years; explore pristine, glacier-fed rivers; and stroll on rugged beaches, scattered with driftwood. This is a region so unique it has been designated a "World Heritage Area", explored by few and inhabited by even fewer. Following extensive refurbishment, the Heartland World Heritage Hotel is the perfect base to escape the hustle of modern life and explore the scenic splendour of South Westland. The hotel offers 52 rooms consisting of 50 Studio Rooms and 2 Family Suites. Many rooms offer views towards the mountains, while others look out over the vast surrounding farmland. There are two onsite dining options at the hotel. The “Frontier Café & Bar” is well renowned for fantastic food, and offers a-la-carte dining in a relaxed atmosphere. Open year-round, the menu specialises in west coast delicacies such as whitebait and venison. The bar also offers sky television and two pool tables and is the perfect place to interact with the locals. The other dining option is the seasonal “Waitoto Grill” which is open during the high season for dinner. “The Waitoto Grill” is also open on demand for group lunches and daily for buffet breakfast. Additional facilities at the hotel include ample parking, guest internet stations, guest laundry, children’s playground and games room/lounge with sky television. Activities such as local Haast River jetboating, heli-flights and glacier hikes, can be pre-booked at the tour desk. Located opposite the hotel, the Haast Visitor Centre is a must see attraction with a walk through display featuring the unique history of Haast. The numerous walking tracks in the area will ensure guests capture some spectacular photographs, and everlasting memories of their time spent in Haast, New Zealand’s last frontier.
