Not up to scratch for a town like Lytham!

Upon arrival there was no record of our booking - fortunately I had the confirmatory email from Late Rooms with me.

Despite requesting an explanation for this we still do not know whether this was the fault of Late Rooms or the hotel. The shower had lost one of its fixings on the end of the bath - this should have been noticed by a cleaner. This made showering tricky. We had to ask for boiling water for tea at breakfast - unsurprising when on the continent but not in Lytham!

I've stayed here before with no complaints.

This time was a bit different. After booking in good faith on Late Rooms, I was called the next day by the hotel to be told they could not fulfil my double room reservation. I instead accepted a twin room as there was no alternative accommodation available. No gesture was offered for the inconvenience such as breakfast or a slight discount on the cost of the room. Arriving at the hotel there was no-one on reception and when someone appeared, the check in system did not work, eventually someone else appeared and managed to complete the check-in. Again, despite having provided feedback to LateRooms about my booking problem, this was not mentioned at check-in and again no gesture was offered - not even a drink in the bar. The attitude of the staff at check-in and check out was completely indifferent and I felt as if I was an inconvenience to them. The only saving grace was that they had put the beds together in my room and made them up as a double. For this I was most grateful. The accommodation is above a pub, but this closes around midnight and I had a quiet nights sleep. The rooms are basic and a little tired but comfortable none the less. My en-suite was a good size with a bath with shower over complete with liquid soap dispenser. The room also had a flat screen TV and got extra brownie points for having a few biscuits with the tea and coffee facilities. It's a shame that an otherwise competent hotel is let down by such bad customer service.
