In need of refurbishment

Arrived about 19:15 and checked in.

Reception rather dismal. Booked breakfast for next morning for 8 am. This charge had to be refunded as chef/manager. did not arrive next morning until about 08:15. Too late for us. Said he overslept and didn't seem too bothered. The room we had was rather tired looking - creaky floorboards. Light above dressing table/desk did not work (no bulb). Shower in ensuite was very stiff and I had trouble trying to get it to work but managed some sort of shower -hot and cold. There ws mould on ceiling above shower. Two positive factors - the evening meal we had was good and the beds were comfortable.

Poor Hotel Accommodation

We have never stayed in such a poor place ever before.

The room was not ready at 5pm on arrival and were asked to wait in a dismal reception area, There was no staff except the owner who was frequently missing and lived away from the Hotel when the reception and bar were locked. The welcome was non existant and guest treated with a 'c'est la vie' attitude. There was no heating or hot water to wash with at night and the weather was cold. Loose tap in basin which would not close, shower was a dribble, WC difficult to flush, one pillow per bed, uncomfortable beds, Towels had seen better days. Single glass windows facing busy and noisy main road, one pane cracked and taped up. The exterior of the Hotel was in need of cleaning, tidying and maintenance and a good paint. Communication and ambience was poor. In total a very disappointing experience.
