About the hotel
Thoresby Hall is as lush and ornate an example of a Victoriana as you can imagine. Magnificently restored by Warner Leisure Hotels in 1998, its turrets, balustrades, gabled tower and finely-wrought iron gates are perfect reminders of the exuberance of 19th century architecture. The interior of Thoresby Hall is a sheer delight.
Entering beneath the stunning central tower, a wide staircase takes you to the Great Hall. Thoresby Hall has a huge range of things to do. With a croquet lawn, bowls, full Spa facilities (available at an extra cost), indoor heated pool, and many other indoor and outdoor activities; there’s always something to keep you busy if you want to be! We aim to do everything we can to help you relax, unwind and fully enjoy the fantastic facilities we have to offer. On a Warner Leisure Hotels short break there's live entertainment every night with breakfast, three course dinner and accommodation all included in the price. Please note all our breaks are for adults only. All members of the party must be over 21 years of age.

I thought I would combine a business trip with a treat for my daughter how badly could of this have gone!!!!.
Probably my fault entirely although I do intend to logged back in to reread the details of the hotel. A bit late after the horse has bolted though if you get my drift. Looking for a last minute deal, as the previous spa hotel we selected had sold out between us viewing and purchasing. So this one looked fine as I scanned through the photos and speed read some of the text. A short overnight spa chillax was just the ticket to spend some precious daughter Mummy time as a special treat for my hardworking 25 year old daughter full of the rigors of a full on London life .
I couldn't of got it more wrong if I had tried much to the disappointment and stroppiness of my daughter who was so looking for to our girlie expedition. The coach park should of been a giveaway to what lay ahead of us................ It took us several minutes to realise we were at a Warner's OAP village this was no swanky spa let me tell you seriously apart from the staff we were the youngest guests, our fellow residents were the 70 plus crowd. There were even special indoor parking lots for zimmers, wheelchairs and sticks alike.
The staff were truly lovely which kind of did make up a bit but I wasn't pleased that after spending two hours trying to phone the spa directly and leaving two messages it was still constantly engaged and no one bothered to phone us back either. The worst of it when we did arrive which must of been around 5ish the spa was already closed I mean what spa closes at 5 ????, of course it caters for the residents that are honed into the routine of dinner at 7 and bed by 10. Most disappointing even so, if I had known beforehand I would have definitely cancelled the whole reservation not wishing to disappoint my daughter. The two 30 minute spa treatment slots that were available the next day were simply too short and too tight time wise to slot in with our ongoing travels. As my daughter also quite rightly pointed out Mum I don't want to look at bunions and wrinkles at 25 I'll use my treat somewhere in London instead. The place is a maze and quite honestly some of the less capable residents must really struggle to get around there is a lot of walking. The newer part of the hotel is very dated and the rooms are depressing unless you like beige and brown of course, it lacks any finesse in décor. However the old Hall is in contrast amazing and has been tasteful refurbished. It is a pity that the main hall is set out like a nursing home there are lines of arms chairs to accommodate the elderly guests. I can only describe the food like school dinners, pretty disgusting on all levels. My daughter had cold frozen seafood that tasted of brime and I had an equally horrible fried risotto( I was puzzle too) Nothing was home cooked and fresh from what I could see. Even the carrots were frozen, it was mass catering on a whole new level and the food was completely dismal. I left my main dinner and so hungry deciding to join the buffet queue for the roast dinner which was as bad but I have to say the beef was slow cooked and tender with a moderate tasty gravy. The Yorkies which usually my favourite I am sure were readymade and tasted of cardboard but I was staving. The desserts were definitely brought in and even my sweet tooth couldn't succumb to the sugary E numbered delights. Suzi :(
Hotel, food and lovely room all perfect.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you're looking for a nice relaxing weekend.
