Conference plus Comfort

Having stayed here last Conference, we chose to come again and were not disappointed.

A very comfortable and warm room with all the facilities we needed. Bed particularly comfy , en suite super and very cleverly planned with a single door hinged to open on to the whole room or to shut off the loo cubicle so that another person could use the shower or basin without intruding om the person in the loo. TV and radio very good, coffee and tea making facility good too. I would recommend they give a choice of Fair Trade tea, coffee and sugar in the rooms. The coffee sachets were fine but only 2 given per couple per day. No second cup for thirsty conference attendees!. Breakfast was plentiful, but not the most inspiring!. Scrambled egg, sausage and baked beans each day was a rather dull offer in the morning. Some bacon would have been nice for those who find sausages a bit too big and heavy first thing in the morning. Cereals, fresh fruit and yogurts were also available with pastry and croissants, rolls and bread to toast as desired. I thought the offering for continentals was a bit sparse. Only some very nondescript cheese. Perhaps a more interesting array of cold meats as well would be better for those from the Continent who are not accustomed to "Full English / Scottish Breakfast". The Bar Meal in the evening was good though not many choices on offer. Having said that the choice was a good one to suit most tastes. We had one cheese burger between us on our first night and it was delicious and enough for two. On our second night we chose the Chicken Tikka Masala also between us and that too was a perfect size for us. Conference had been late that night and we didn't get to ask for our meal until 8 30 p,m, The kitchens were shutting at 9 p,m, but the bar staff were so delightful and nothing was a bother..... Yes, we and our fellow residents could have a meal but it would be served perhaps not all together as the kitchen staff were away and only 2 of them left to take our orders and prepare them....... They couldn't have been more helpful and we greatly appreciated their attention and kindness. I am glad to commend them in this review. One thing about the menu which perplexed me however was the vegetarian option. Ingredients listed underneath the Pizza description( for allergy sufferers), included fish and crustaceans. How, I asked the staff, could this be classified as vegetarian when it had patently got this included in pizza content. Not a problem for us , but our vegetarian grand daughter could not have accepted that as suited for her. This might be something the hotel could be well advised to scrutinise more closely. These, I feel, are fair comments rather than a criticism .This is a very good hotel and to be well recommended to other travellers. We would certainly stay there again. Thank you to all who made our stay such a pleasure.
