Great location friendly staff great value for money
The hotel is in a great location close to uni.
So cheap over night stay whilst visiting daughter at the university. Would use this hotel again.
We stayed here for one night during the Tramlines festival, and I thought it was good value at £44 for a double room with breakfast, situated to the west of the city centre, just down from Student Union building.
The staff were friendly, the room was clean and the breakfast was excellent, too. However, the noise from the music venue downstairs is something you really need to seriously take into consideration before choosing to stay here. I've stayed about rowdy pubs before, with blaring sound systems downstairs, so I underestimated just how much of an issue it would be here. It might not be that loud every night, and it was an unusually hot evening so it would have been difficult to sleep in any case, but there was a techno event on until 4am when we were there, and even the radiator on the corridor was shaking.
The combination of the heat and noise were a bit much by 3am, so we went for a walk to cool down, and we noticed even the windows outside were shaking. If they invested in sound-proofing the bar/venue itself, that would definitely help, though I'm not sure how practical that would be in reality. Again, I don't want to be too critical here, as I have ticked the boxes about staying here again and recommending the place to friends, but on the proviso it would be a perfect place to crash after a big night out, rather than a simple city visit.
