About the hotel

Built in 1465, Brook Red Lion Hotel is a Grade 1 listed building with plenty of Olde world charm. Maintaining its original Tudor features of exposed wooden beams and warm red and gold fabrics, the Red Lion Hotel is one of the oldest Inns in the area. The individually decorated En-suite rooms mix traditional charm with modern comforts, and each hold a flat screen TV, WiFi, a trouser press and tea/coffee making facilities.

The Red Lion Hotel’s old banqueting hall has been transformed into the Parliament Restaurant, where guests can enjoy a relaxed dining atmosphere and classical dishes with a modern twist from the à la carte menu. The Red Lion also offers a bar and 24-hr room service. Situated in Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, there is plenty to do when you book a stay at the Brook Red Lion Hotel. Just a short walk away you will find plenty of boutique shops in the area and local tourist attractions including Colchester Castle, Zoo and the Beth Chatto Gardens.

Room 3 then a room away from high street poor.

Before booking in obtained out of date written instruction to car park.

Room 3 at front of building oposte nightclub open till 5am, simple, basic but predictably noisy.

Asked staff if we could move to a better quiter room so we packed up our things and moved to rear of hotel on a lower level. Second room was shabby, bath appeared to have been painted and flacked away by water. After a meal out received a call needed at home. Asked for discount having not used bed missing breakfast etc. Advised to drive car and park in high street then collect personal possession. This we did. Have two £30 fines for driving in new bus lanes, one on route to car park during day time following instruction, the other parking in high street to collect possessions. Telephoned hotel but not interested, asked receptionist to inform manager we would feedback negative reviews and here we are.

Lovely break

This is a lovely old coach house with squeaky floorboards, exposed oak beams and beautiful rooms, the four poster was especially nice.

Would definitely stay again, very close to all the restaurants, bars and shops in Colchester town centre
