Bracken House, formerly known as The Old Rectory, is situated on the edge of the popular North Devon village of Bratton Fleming. It is a high quality bed and breakfast with Four star Silver Award rating from Visit England which was renewed in October 2014. It is within easy driving distance of the spectacular coast with Putsborough, our favourite beach, being about 40 minutes away. Exmoor (about 3 miles away) and many other local attractions, including National Trust properties (Arlington Court), gardens at RHS Rosemoor, Castle Hill, Marwood and Tapeley Park are also within easy reach. There are lovely views from the house and gardens over the lovely unspoilt North Devon countryside and also down to Hartland Point in the distance.
We have three ensuite bedrooms, two doubles on the first floor one with views to Hartland Point in the distance (Wooster) and the other (Jeeves) looks over the garden and surrounding countryside. Wooster can be made up as a twin, if preferred. Anatole is a double bedroom on the ground floor and would be suitable for guests who have difficulty in climbing stairs and the doors have been widened to accommodate wheelchairs users. It has an en-suite bathroom with shower over.
The historic towns of Barnstaple and South Molton are 8 and 12 miles respectively to the south and Exmoor National Park is 3 miles to the east. The stunning coast line of North Devon with its cliff paths and sandy beaches are a short drive away. Nearby villages include Goodleigh, Brayford, Stoke Rivers, Shirwell, East and West Buckland as well as the towns of Barnstaple, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and South Molton.
We have named the rooms after characters in P G Wodehouse's novels as his uncle was Rector here from 1875 to 1913 and it is known that he stayed in this house.
