Located centrally between Leyburn, Richmond and Bedale, Elmfield House is a country guesthouse offering outstanding bed and breakfast in the Yorkshire Dales. Catterick Garrison is nearby as are Croft Circuit for petrolheads and Catterick Racecourse, along with other racecourses, for admirers of a different horse power, are in easy reach. Our location also makes us a peaceful stopping off point for those travelling the length of the A1.

Our home has lots of space, both inside and out, with the added privacy of a guest entrance and stairs giving access to 4 large en-suite bedrooms, including 2 with four poster beds and a family room for 2 adults and up to 2 children. Guests can also enjoy a huge conservatory, with airy east facing dining area and a guest lounge with current editions of leading magazines, books and games. Outside there are views over open countryside and woodland with a beautiful lake where coarse fishing is available. You are welcome to chat to Hetty and the girls, the hens who provide very free range eggs for breakfast and the other animals are always pleased to see visitors.

As well as offering a tranquil location, comfy beds and an excellent Yorkshire Breakfast, we serve home cooked evening meal and guests can enjoy a warm welcome with with a cup of tea accompanied by home-made cake to help the relaxation get under way.

Our location and facilities make us an ideal venue for a weekend break for up to 14 adults and group bookings are a speciality. Walkers and bikers are welcome and we will do our best to help you sort out any wet gear if that is needed.

It is very peaceful here, about 1/4 mile from the road and is a fantastic location for star gazing with big, clear open skies, so feel free to bring your fishing rod or telescope.

We love living here and delight in sharing it with guests so look forward to meeting you - you are most welcome.

From A1 northbound take the A684 turning for Bedale. Continue on A684 through Bedale towards Leyburn and Hawes. Pass through Crakehall and Patrick Brompton and as you leave Patrick Brompton turn right at the crossroads past the church. We are 1 ½ miles along this road on the right with AA and Farmstay signs at lane end.

From A1 southbound take the second exit marked for Catterick Garrison which will also be signed for Marne Barracks. Turn left at the end of the slip road and then immediate left to take you over the A1. Take the first right and at the T junction turn left - you are following the signs for Tunstall. Continue along the road, through Tunstall and eventually you will come to another T junction. Turn left here and we are about a mile and a half on the left hand side after the crossroads to Hornby and Arrathorne.
If you prefer a slightly more scenic route you can keep straight on after you have crossed across the A1 and head to Hackforth. As you enter the village there is a lodge house and turning on your right signed for Hornby. Take this right and it will take you through the parkland where deer, cattle and bison (yes, bison) roam with Hornby Castle on the skyline to your left. Continue through the village and eventually you will come to a crossroad. Turn left and we are about half a mile on the left hand side. I would not bother with this route in the dark or if you do not like cattle grids.

We hope you have a good journey to us and look forward to seeing you soon.
